My Lego Set Inventory
I’ve finally put together my Lego set inventory. This was partly done to
satisfy my own curiosity, as well as answer the status question that serves as
something of a status symbol to Lego aficionados: “How many bricks?” I still
don’t have piece counts for a couple of sets—those cells are highlighted in
yellow.
The total was surprisingly low. Had I guessed, I’d have aimed somewhere
around 50,000 bricks. Still 15,000 isn’t that bad. Some surprising trends
noticed:
 | There was a period of several years (late high school through college)
where I didn’t get any new Lego sets.

| My rate of acquiring sets has actually accelerated in adulthood. This
trend is likely to accelerate further, as income rises. |
My first set was #480,
the Rescue Helicopter. The latest acquisitions tend to be Star Wars
sets or MindStorms sets (or Technic sets purchased because of their utility in
building robots).
I’ve recently acquired a sizable collection from a guy in Illinois. This
brings my piece count up to 30,000!
